the whole except the sole

I don't really think in colors. Weird as that maybe, but I've been applying that to my wardrobe too from last year. Besides, who needs color anyway when you got black leather and transparent plastics haha! Oh yeah and btw I'm now obsessed about pairing sneakers with formal trousers.

fantasea

New hair for the new school semester,  courtesy of my multi-talented friend Lulu. So far, it has turned from dark blue to turquoise. I'm excited how it will look like a month from now. Until then, I'll be listening to Azealia Banks, the original 21st century aquababe.

lovely bones

It's been a while since I post any of my work, so here is some of my watercolor illustration.

I'm personally obsessed with any skull illustration. Although I'm not entirely on board with the typical gory and horror interpretation in the likes of tattoos and its association to death. I think of them with a different set of mind.

Our bones is what I consider as our identity. Maybe my obsession for watching the crime-investigation tv series 'Bones' for the past few years had a lot to do with it.  As Dr Brennan played by Emily Deschanel identified a victim's race and gender just by observing the bones, it led me thinking. The very bones underneath our flesh are like our very own mold and true identity. Because no matter how many botox injection a houesewive had, she still remain physically old.

But its not about the flaws, the beauty of our bones is in how it reflects who we trully are not who we pretend to be. That's why I reinterpret skulls to be more cheerful. More towards Mcqueen's diamond skull print from the SS09 'natural dis-tinction un-natural selection' collection. So, expect to see more skull-based illustration in my next few post.

more fw 12

Aside from being a loyal fan to jeremy scott and givenchy for the past few years, there are other fashion houses that have got my attention as well. Prada and Jil Sander are in my list of ones-to-watch but I'll talk about them later. For now, I'll just be showing you guys my favorite shows for the fall 2012.

Thank god for Mary katrantzou! once again she gave us an unbelievable collection. I've been a fan since I stumble upon her first collection few years ago and I fell in love ever since. For this year, her prints seems to be a sophisticated twist upon our basic everyday stuff. She managed to transform the very humble items such as pencils, typewriters, watches, and even spoons, to be gorgeous prints. You'll be amazed at what you can find the in details on all the clothes. If you look closely, the 3rd look is actually the buttons of a typewriter but modified to look like old fashioned mobile phone keyboards.

KTZ, another fellow london-based designer like Mary that I've adored for quite a while ever since I saw their clothes being worn by several eccentric k-pop artists. What I like about them is that always able to present a very edgy collection to the serious fashion world. This time, they went towards a darker path then usual by opting to use ceremonials symbols as the main inspiration. Other than that, I also like the fact how the designer refer back to the english tradition with appearance of the kilt and the tartans. In addition, the application of wresting champion buckles and chains on the thick-soled shoes is superb!

I have to be honest, Proenza Schouler is not always on my list. But for this show, I had to relocate my jaw after being dropped to the ground for a few minutes while browsing through the runway photos. Yes, people have argued that the looks on the show had several similarities with Balenciaga. But still, it was a fantastic collection to see. This collection, the proenza boys looked far east to see for inspiration. Aside from the obvious japanese prints on some of the dresses and jackets, even just the quilting technique and the cut of some of the jackets reminded me of tatami and samurai's clothes.

There you go, those were some of my favorite collection for the fall 2012, what about yours?

studded cap

A few friends of mine had been asking about this particular accessory of mine recently, so I decided its worth a post.

I'm talking about my studded cap. And before anyone ask anything, Its a DIY. I made it back in December. I've been crazy about anything studded for a while. Since I somehow cant seem to find it any where, I decided to make my own (just like the studded collars on a few of my shirts I posted before). Although for this cap, I was inspired by katie eary's snake new era cap from her ss11 collection (which accompanied by one amazing fashion film, check it out!).

So, there's no reason to go all ordinary on your headgear. Embrace your inner wild side!

fall 2012 - givenchy

Bravo Ricardo Tisci! Once again you managed to make my heart melt even more with each new collection from Givenchy.

Lets start from the pre-fall collection. Revival of the rottweiler print and the similar striped boots from 2011 is nice to see. But the additional leather cap and the whole gothic surfer vibe (domination of blue color from denim and such, as well as the shark tooth necklace and the shark print) is just amazing. And don't forget about the kilts. Its becoming a standard for Givenchy's menswear collection.

The American dream meets minotaur collection proven just that. Kilt in black, or denim, or leather, or even covered in printed stars. Ricardo is giving examples of how kilt is properly done, like paired with the star printed bomber,  or a loose sweater or with a classic blazer.

But what was even more amazing was the details in this collection. The bedazzled two tone sport jacket and beaded suit and shirts is to die for. Not to mention the nose ring attached to each model walked down the runway. The beast is unleashed!

Although in the more wearable area, the actual beast are the shoes. Its like a morph between an air yeezy and a brogue! Truly a fantastic creature indeed.

And for the ladies, here is the fall couture collection, which we all can only drool over and imagine seeing them with our very own eyes.

Where should I start. The leather cropped jackets? The gigantic fierce earrings? The return of the asymmetrically-hanged-by-a-chain skirt from the summer collection? Or the fact that the setting looks like a high school gymnasium?

All I can think of is that, fantastic job Ricardo! you've outdone yourself once more
